Big Juan Slot

Pragmatic Play adds to its growing collection of Mexican-inspired titles with the Big Juan slot that they released back in October 2021. This title brings together a range of different gameplay mechanics, blending them smoothly alongside a vibrant, distinctive visual theme to create a genuine standout within this popular genre of online slots. From collect mechanics to respin rounds and jackpots, the Big Juan slot boasts a handful of layers which help make its experience a unique one.

Big Juan Game Background

Starting with the playtable, a 5-reel 4-row structure sits in the centre of the screen, with the Big Juan slot following a fairly conventional layout, supported by 40 paylines running across patterned segments. To the left of the grid stands Big Juan himself, dressed in a red sombrero and green blazer. Along the top of the screen sit the Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand prize boxes that are all positioned side by side, something which enters this title into the category of jackpot slots in turn.

The backdrop in the Big Juan slot remains somewhat understated, though several Día de los Muertos skull banners hang above a cobbled street scene. A couple of houses line either side of the street, while a warm yellow sun sets over the horizon. A lively mariachi-style soundtrack rounds out the atmosphere in this Big Juan slot, echoing the same musical style found in titles Chilli Heat Megaways and Day of the Dinero.

Big Juan Slot Symbols

Moving on to the symbols in the Big Juan slot, all of these are colourful in order to match the vibrant theme at hand. The lower-valued playing card ranks inspired by live casino games each have patterns across them similar to the bunting above the reels. On the contrary, the remaining higher-valued icons are a series of items that would likely be involved in Día de los Muertos celebrations or are closely associated with Mexican culture in general.

Lower Value Symbols:

• 10

• Jack (J)

• Queen (Q)

• King (K)

• Ace (A)

Medium Value Symbols:

• Hot Sauce

• Purple Guitar

• Chihuahua

Higher Value Symbols:

• Mexican Woman

• Big Juan

Pragmatic Play has not forgotten about bonus symbols either, adding 2 separate ones into this Big Juan slot. These include the red hot chilli and the piñata, with these representing the wild and scatter symbols, respectively.

Big Juan Bonus Features

The first of the bonuses in the Big Juan slot is referred to as the ‘Wild Switch’ feature. If players land six or more matching symbols across the three central reels, this could cause them to transform into chilli wild symbols at random. As is standard for most wilds, like the ones seen in classic slot games, these are able to substitute for other base game icons across the 40 paylines.

In the case that 3, 4, or 5 piñata scatters appear simultaneously, this could trigger the Big Juan respins round, adding 10, 12, or 15 respins to the player’s count depending on how many scatters landed. This shifts play to a separate 3x3 grid, featuring a bag of coins positioned in the centre. An additional symbol column sits to the right of this smaller grid, introducing a fresh set of symbols exclusive to this bonus round.

One such symbol is the golden coin, which can carry a randomly assigned prize value ranging from 0.5x up to 200x whenever it lands. A red ‘Extra Spin’ symbol is also introduced during the Big Juan respins, and it may add one additional respin to the counter whenever it appears. Rounding out the new symbol set in the respin feature are the piñatas, which could land bearing the name of one of the four jackpot tiers found above the reels.

As for the extra column positioned to the side of the 3x3 grid, it can display either blank spaces or one of two special bonus symbols. The first, a ‘Boost’ symbol, could add the value of any coin symbols directly into the central bag of coins. The second is an alternate version of Big Juan himself, functioning as a collector symbol that might gather up any coin values, jackpot prizes, or the accumulated bag totals currently displayed on screen.
